Lady Gaga has revealed she donned a dress made from meat to highlight human rights.
Lady Gaga has defended her "meat dress".
The eccentric singer -who shocked onlookers by wearing a garment apparently made from raw animal products to the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Sunday (12.09.10) - said she wore the controversial outfit to encourage people to stand up for their rights.
She explained to chat show host Ellen Degeneres: "As you know I am the most judgement-free human being on the earth. If we don't stand up for what we believe in and don't stand up for our rights pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones."
However People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) were unimpressed with her explanation and warned it could lead to people boycotting the 'Poker Face' singer's music.
In a statement they said: "Wearing a dress made out of cuts of dead cows is offensive enough to bring comment, but someone should whisper in her ear that there are more people who are upset by butchery than who are impressed by it."
