An alleged polygamist with three wives, Akon has never had any issues interacting with the fairer sex. “All of my relationships with women here have been great,” he says. “The only thing I’ve had to adjust with [in America] -- women don’t listen. Women got their own mind. They do what they want and when they want to. In Africa, it’s totally different. Women will listen to you and do what you say. Women compete against men here. That’s something I had to get used to.”

Luckily he has, and he’s even learned a few tricks along the way. According to Akon the key to any successful relationship is healthy discourse. “We need to learn how to communicate,” he says. “If men would learn how to communicate, relationships would be a whole lot better.”

One of the most promising young stars in the music industry, Akon has released two critically acclaimed albums, including Trouble and Konvicted, a double-platinum gem that debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard200 chart. His songs have also appeared on the movie soundtracks for Take the Lead (2006), The Shaggy Dog (2006) starring Kristin Davis, and Coach Carter(2005) starring fellow hip-hop starlet Ashanti, as well as TV shows like The Wire, Bones with David Boreanaz, and the hit show Entourage starring Jeremy Piven and Emmanuelle Chriqui. He has also had six top-five singles, including the Eminem collaboration “Smack That,” for which he received a Grammy nomination.
