Nbc's Nfl Coverage Sets 14-Year Ratings Record
Thursday night's NFL football game between the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints turned out to be the highest rated primetime game broadcastby any network in 14 years and the highest-rated regular season game ever broadcast on NBC, according to Nielsen Research. Some 27.5 million viewers tuned in, making it the most-watched regular-season NFL game since 31.5 million tuned in to ABC's telecast of the Green Bay-Dallas game on November 18, 1996. "This record viewership speaks to the power of the NFL and our country's extraordinary appetite for football," NBC Sports and Olympics Chairman Dick Ebersol said in a statement. "This shows what can happen when we apply a strategic, multi-platform marketing approach to put a broad promotional blitz behind a project."
