Box Office Likely To See Ticket Sales Plunge This Weekend
Only one film is opening wide this weekend, and it's a horror flick based on a videogame at that. And it hasn't been shown to critics. Box-office analysts have observed that the weekend after Labor Day frequently produces the year's fewest ticket sales, so without any serious competition, Resident Evil Afterlife is likely to have a solid opening. In 2007, Sony Picturesreleased Resident Evil Apocalypse on the weekend after Labor Day and hauled in $23.1 million. This latest release has 3D premium pricing going for it, so some analysts are predicting that it could open with around $25 million. Also opening in limited release is Casey Affleck's documentary about brother-in-law Joaquin Phoenix, I'm Still Here , which most critics are pounding heavily.
